Brainfart.
Sometimes when my mind isn’t creative, I either leave the house and do something to take a mental break, or I browse books, magazines, or online for an inspiration to pop into my head. I’m currently trying to come up with some creative logos for a couple of brands. And I got stuck with a brain fart, so I was browsing the internet for some cool logos. And I have to say, the ones that stick out best to me are the creative type logos that form images, or subtle images that really complete the logo. I hate busy logos especially when the elements have nothing to do with the brand. Or when people just take a font they like, type out the brand name, do nothing to give the font a little twist, and call it their logo. Where’s the creativity in that? Well here’s some of my favorites I found….

Crips & Bloods: Made In America
I’ve always had a love for documentaries. To some of you this movie may be old, but I suggest to those who haven’t seen it, to watch this whether you grew up in this type of environment or not.
Directed by critically acclaimed documentary filmmaker Stacy Peralta and Executive Produced by NBA star Baron Davis and Silicon Valley entrepreneur Stephen Luczo, CRIPS AND BLOODS: MADE IN AMERICA tells the story of the Crips and Bloods, South Los Angeles’ two most infamous African-American gangs.
Combining unprecedented access into the worlds of active gangs, CRIPS AND BLOODS: MADE IN AMERICA offers a compelling, character-driven documentary narrative which chronicles the decades-long cycle of destruction and despair that defines modern gang culture.
The shocking war-zone reality of the South LA Gangs, the Crips and the Bloods.
From the genesis of LA’s gang culture to the shocking, war-zone reality of daily life in the South L.A., the film chronicles the rise of the Crips and Bloods, tracing the origins of their bloody four-decades long feud. Contemporary and former gang members offer their street-level testimony that provides the film with a stark portrait of modern-day gang life: the turf wars and territorialism, the inter-gang hierarchy and family structure, the rules of behavior, the culture of guns, death and dishonor.
Ex-gang members of the Crips and Bloods, gang intervention experts, activists and academics talk.
Throughout the film ex-gang members, gang intervention experts, writers, activists and academics analyze many of the issues that contribute to South LA’s malaise: the erosion of identity that fuels the self-perpetuating legacy of black self-hatred, the disappearance of the African-American father and an almost pervasive prison culture in which today one out of every four black men will be imprisoned at some point in his life.
Solution to the South LA gang problem.
Finally the gang members themselves articulate their enduring dream of a better life. They provide CRIPS AND BLOODS: MADE IN AMERICA with its ultimate statement: a message of hope and a cautionary tale of redemption aimed at saving the lives of a new generation of kids, not just in South LA but anywhere in the world that gang violence exists.

Soulshifters Summit 2009 NYC
Along with Massive Monkees another locally well known crew is the Soulshifters. Free aka Alfredo has been dancing for a long time. I even battled him growing up in high school at a B-Boy battle in Tacoma Mall at Above the Belt. I still have the video, one day I’ll upload it. Of course I lost. But he’s still one of my idols in the dance world that is still doin it. I need to get back into my dancing shape which was -30lbs!

Great Wolf Lodge + Niece’s Birfday + Jerkin’
It was my niece’s birthday and we decided to take her to the Great Wolf Lodge which was a first time for all of us. It was worth the stay and I really wouldn’t mind going again. The lines for the rides weren’t as long as compared to Wild Waves and the Howlin’ Tornado was the sickest ride out there! They also had an arcade and a teenage dance club to keep the youngins busy.

Raw Oysters + Southern Kitchen
It was a hot and sunny day out. We were planning on going kayaking in Gig Harbor, but all the kayaks were all rented out. So we saw some folks picking oysters off the beach and we all decided to eat some since we’ve never tried it straight off the beach. I love raw oysters, but this was our first time eating them right off of the beach. I’m used to them being ice cold, but they were still pretty damn good!
Afterwards we decided to end our evening with dinner at Tacoma’s well known Southern Kitchen Restaurant. They serve the best soul food ever and was recently featured in Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Ever since this place was featured on that show, they’ve been busy like crazy and there have been long lines outside waiting to get a taste of this southern cookin’.
